Michalina Wisłocka, née Braun (1921-2005), was Polish gynecologist and sexologist. She obtained her doctorate in medicine in 1969. Wisłocka was a co-founder of the Society for Conscious Motherhood, where she worked in the field of infertility treatment and contraception. However, she is best known as an author of “The Art of Love” (“Sztuka kochania”), a popular science guide to sexology, published in 1978. “The Art of Love” quickly became a bestseller, with a circulation of 7 million copies. Moreover, it needs to be highlighted that the book played a key role in initiating greater openness about sex and sexuality in Poland. On 9 September 1997, Michalina Wisłocka was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restitutia.
