ReCall Project Conference in Veszprém – Join Us and Spread the Word! – Bolesław the Brave and the Birth of Central Europe

Why come?

The ReCall Project invites scholars, students, and everyone interested in the shared past of Hungary, Poland, and Czechia to a two-day international conference exploring how Bolesław the Brave and his era helped shape Central Europe. Across keynote lectures, focused panels, an exhibition opening, and a cathedral organ recital, the event connects medieval history with modern memory politics—showing how royal power, Church networks, and cross-border ties forged a region that still matters today.

What to expect

  • Top speakers from leading universities and institutions, including Józef Górzyński, Márta Font, Dániel Bagi, Martin Wihoda, Zbigniew Dalewski, Andrzej Pleszczyński, Marcin Pauk, and others.
  • Panel I & II (Day 1): Medieval Central Europe—coronations, dynastic alliances, Church foundations, and Piast–Rus’ relations.
  • Special features (Day 1):
    • 🖼️ Poland–Hungary, the First Kings – exhibition opening (Polish Institute in Budapest)
    • 🎶 Organ concert at St. Michael’s Cathedral
  • Memory Politics (Day 2): Polish–Hungarian sites of memory, anniversaries, and 19th–20th-century interpretations.
  • ReCall Session (Day 2): A compact overview of the project’s intellectual outputs and digital resources from Polish, Czech, and Hungarian perspectives.
