Part of the „The story of the beginning” topic

Winged Hussars, heavy cavalry formation from 16th-18th centuries, to this day embody the military might of Poland at that time and to this serve as a clear symbol of past success. It is no surprise that whenever Poland and its people attempt at invoking national pride or power projection, the image of a knight with distinctive armor and wings is brought up – no matter if it was under the foreign occupation, during the communist regime or in modern times. They are mostly known for their crucial role in the battle of Vienna, 11th September 1683, when the coalition of Christians states of Central Europe won against the Ottoman Empire, consequently bringing the end to the expansion of that contemporary powerhouse.
